What do neurotypical people often fail to understand about people who are on the autism spectrum?

What do neurotypical people often fail to understand about people who are on the autism spectrum?

I don’t get it. Seriously. I just don’t get it. Just say what you mean.

Please stop expecting me to guess what you mean when you don’t say what you mean. Just because I can occasionally guess what you are getting at when you are dropping broad hints, does not mean that I am being intentionally obtuse when I don’t get all of your hints and passive-aggressive things that you say.

Please ask me the question that you want answered. Please stop asking me a different question, then deciding what my answer would be to the question you really want answered, based on my answer to the other question.

Coworker “Did you bring lunch today?”
Me “Yes.”
Coworker walks to other coworkers “He said he doesn’t want to go to lunch.”

What?? That isn’t the question that was asked. I =always= have a lunch in the fridge or freezer. I can eat it another day. If he’d have asked if I wanted to go to lunch with them, 99% of the time my answer is yes.

And if you keep doing this, in spite of me pointing out what you are doing, then what reasonable person wouldn’t start to think that you are actually trying to find ways to exclude me?
